Gangs From Inside Out

Course Description: One of the leading complaints of teachers contributing to low staff morale is the perception of working in an unsafe work environment. The persona and attitude often associated with youth involved in gangs can certainly contribute to this feeling. Understanding gangs should go beyond understanding signs and symbols of gang involvement. This course will allow attendees to gain insight into what causes kids to join gangs and what keeps them there.

About the Trainer: Charla Waxman, MBA, Ed. D. has worked with adolescents for more than twenty five years. She has received the Milton Thrasher Award twice from the National Gang Crime Research Center for her work with gang members. She is published in the areas of gangs, anger management, adolescent behavior and the history of mental health. As Director of Business Development at Linden Oaks at Edward, Charla provides countless presentations on mental health and adolescent issues.
