Course Description: The focus of this workshop is the sociopolitical and cultural contexts that shape identity, influence development, and affect the counseling relationship. Mental health professionals must be aware of the developmental stages related to normalcy across and within cultural groups. Multicultural awareness precedes effective counseling relationships. This workshop will provide information, discussions, and teaching application of how to work with various ethnic and racial groups in counseling. Participants will:
About the Trainer: Dr. Byron Waller, PhD, LCPC , is the Assistant Professor of Counseling at Governors State University where he has worked since 2001 in the Department of Psychology and Counseling College of Education program. Dr. Waller obtained his Ph.D from the Loyola University , his MA from Chicago State University , BA from Grace College and his religious education from the Moody Bible Institute. He has been in private practice for 15 years at the Refuge Christian Counseling Center in South Holland , IL .
Continuing Education Hours: This program is recognized as providing 6 CE's for: LPC/LCPC, LSW/LCSW.

Refund Policy: Registrations cancelled before one week prior to the workshop will be refunded their cost minus a $25 administrative fee. Registration can be applied to another available training date, based on availability. There are no refunds within one week of the training.
