Child Counseling
When working with children it is important to develop a parent-counselor partnership. Children have fewer ways to express themselves, especially verbally. The counselors that work with children have multiple ways of working with younger clients in order to communicate effectively.
“Play therapy” is commonly used to develop this counselor-child communication. Play therapy utilizes games, art, and music to encourage children to become comfortable, trust the counselor, and share their feelings. Play is a means for children to communicate through more than words. Positive changes will become apparent once the child is able to express his or her feelings.
Our goal is to develop a trusting relationship between an APC counselor, you as a parent, and your child. We will work as a team to help your family.
